This was the boringest ballerina-based revenge plot of my life. HNGHHHHHHH IT JUST WENT ON AND ON FOREVVVVER. It’s like 6000 pages long, and the same boring shit keeps happening. Someone is jealous of Gigi, Gigi is sweet to everyone, someone does something mean and sneaky to her, literally nobody tries to find out who is doing this shit not even like any of the adults, Bette is blonde and bitchy and rich, June is Korean and bulimic and has an overbearing mother, Alec dumps Bette out of nowhere and starts dating Gigi OUT OF NOWHERE AND PURELY AS A PLOT DEVICE TO GENERATE SOME DRAMA, he gives Gigi a family heirloom necklace after like two weeks and I am like, Why did you not give that to Bette somewhere you have been dating for like fifteen years, Gigi keeps getting the leads in all performances and people keep putting glass in her shoe and murdering her pet butterflies.
|I KNOW and yet weirdly it is not.|
I dunno. Dialogue clunky, major editing needed both in the fix-these-garbage-sentences-up sense and the cut-out-whole-swathes-of-this-repetitive-whatsit sense. Cardboard characters, SUUUUUPER unsatisfying resolution, major missed opportunities in terms of discussions of race (did I mention Gigi is black? And I don’t know if you’ve noticed but there are not a lot of black ballerinas lots of stuff could have been done with that omg), there are unfired guns left lying all OVER the place (like, chekhovianly or metaphorically or whatever, POR EJEMPLO Gigi has this heart condition that keeps coming up and seeming like it’s going to be a thing and then is never a thing and I guess that’s pretty verisimilitudinous but in a book THIS LONG AND WORDY you need to leave out shit that does not become pertinent) and did I mention the resolution because it was like
|ugh that bed looks so soft|
I wanted to like this so much and my feelings of disappoint are legion.
