This review is from EEEEEGES ago. Thanks, drafts folder. You always have my back.
So I read Forgotten and then I read Before I Go To Sleep and then I crack open The Raw Shark Texts and the dude is like, I HAVE NO MEMORY OF WHO I AM OR WHAT I’M DOING HERE and I am like *Groundhog Day moment* but whereas those two are straight-up thrillers, this is way more Stuff You Enjoy The Shit Out Of While In College And Probably While Super-High.
Because, ok, there’s a conceptual shark? And it’s eating his memories? And he defends himself by creating a perpetual feedback loop in a vortex of dictaphones, and then standing in the center…I know. My theory class full of adorable hipsters would have gone wild for this shit.
And, ok, I ENJOYED it. I know. I was in a weird headspace. But he keeps having dream-flashbacks to or finding journals from before he lost his memories, when he and his girlfriend (NOW ACCIDENTALLY DEAD, because you need some sort of trauma to lose all those memories) were shucking around Greece like a pair of hedonists, and I found them oddly compelling.
