Not only does springtime mean SUNSHINE and SKIRTS and MY SCHOLASTIC AGONY but also the annual recurrence of Carl’s Once Upon A Time Challenge! Between this and his R.I.P challenge, Carl hosts the only challenges I ever finish (and why is there no good synonym for ‘challenge’? It is no longer looking like a word).
I’ll be shooting for Quest the First: five books that fall under the fairytalefolklorefantasymythology rubric. I have Shannon Hale’s Goose Girl and Malinda Lo’s Ash sitting on my readathon pile, and somewhere in a stack I have Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: Women Writers Explore their Favorite Fairy Tales because while WRITING essays is my own personal hell, I love reading them.
Ok but what else? What fairy-taleage will you be reading this spring? Will you take up Carl’s challenge? (Do it. Carl always provides a one-book option, which is maybe why I’m so skilled at finishing them.)
