Ok, I first heard about Fingersmith at Valentina’s Room, and then, like, everywhere else. NO ONE was not reading Fingersmith, and I’ll be damned if I don’t jump on every bandwagon I can catch. It’s a decent tale of a plucky orphan (again with the plucky orphans) in the dirty, seedy London underbelly (Londerbelly?) who happens upon the ultimate job. She (Susan) is to go a-maiding to a holed-up young virginal thing (Maud) and con her into marrying a gentleman (Gentleman) so that they (Susan and Gentleman) can squirrel her (Maud) away in a sanitarium forthwith and divvy her fortune. Never to pick a pocket or two again!
